11 ‒ 15 May 2026
Dear friends of Ukraine,
Last week we wrote that “the situation calls for joint German-Ukrainian deterrence against russia”. This week, the Federal Minister of Defence and the Ukrainian Minister of Defence have launched the appropriate initiative in the form of Brave Germany. We will support the initiative and compile profiles of German and Ukrainian companies willing to cooperate to connect them with one another.
Our first board meeting on Tuesday was also dominated by the defence sector. With representatives from KNDS and Quantum Systems, we now have the expertise within the board that is appropriate to the situation. Also new to the board are representatives from Caparol, Metro and the VW Group. In addition to defence, the discussion covered the broader context in Ukraine. We have adopted a position paper that does not hold back on criticism and can be downloaded here.
This week, we also began evaluating our survey. Together with KPMG, we asked companies about their investment plans for Ukraine, among other topics. The responses are quite positive and suggest greater commitment from German companies in the near future. Perhaps the responses already contain post-war plans, as the aggressor’s dire situation becomes increasingly clear.
We wish you a lovely weekend from Kyiv.
Kind regards
