Dear friends of Ukraine,
“The russian dictator can no longer hold a victory parade in Moscow because he was so determined to hold one in Kyiv as well.” This sentence, posted on LinkedIn, neatly sums up the situation surrounding tomorrow’s parade in Moscow. It also suggests that peace may be closer than one might think. After all, it has always been clear that serious negotiations can only begin once russia is truly under pressure.
Whilst russia and Ukraine were making proposals for temporary ceasefires, we hosted a delegation from the BDI comprising German companies from the defence sector for the third time during the war. Once again, the delegation was larger than last year, and once again, we had new German companies on board. The atmosphere at the reception in our office was positive. The companies reported good discussions with Ukrainian customers and partners. New business deals and new production joint ventures are in the pipeline.
MP Roderich Kiesewetter suggests that cruise missiles similar to American Tomahawks should also be part of the joint German-Ukrainian projects. We believe that this step is virtually inevitable. Germany and Ukraine have the necessary companies and the necessary engineers. And the situation calls for joint German-Ukrainian deterrence against russia in the future.
Kind regards from Kyiv
