13 ‒ 17 April 2026
Dear friends of Ukraine,
It has been a good week for Ukraine.
On Sunday, Hungary’s voters sent the EU’s most important “russian asset” into retirement. This should pave the way for a more straightforward EU policy on Ukraine. We hope that any remaining resistance to the 90-billion-euro loan will be overcome. There is no alternative to supporting Ukraine.
On Tuesday, the German-Ukrainian government consultations took place under the heading “Strategic Partnership”. This describes how German-Ukrainian relations have developed over four years of war. Ukraine has evolved from an aid recipient to an investor. As part of the “Build with Ukraine” initiative, German-Ukrainian companies are manufacturing Ukrainian products in Germany.
No fewer than six new partnerships were announced during the consultations. Through these joint ventures, Ukraine benefits from secure – and therefore more efficient and easily scalable – production in Germany. Germany will benefit economically because German companies gain new expertise through these partnerships. Germany’s security benefits from the growing production base, which also contributes to “industrial deterrence”.
We wish you a lovely weekend from Berlin and Kyiv.
Kind regards
