Dear friends of Ukraine,
At the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence's Defence Industry Forum in Kyiv this week, everything revolved around joint production. Ukraine is rolling out the red carpet for foreign companies. In doing so, it wants to strengthen itself in its defence against Russian aggressors and become an arms manufacturer for the West.
The Ukrainians have already come a long way down this path. Domestic production has increased tenfold since the start of the war. As a result, the country can now (once again) become an arms exporter. The "Zbroya" initiative aims to promote the import and export of military equipment. Offices are set to open in Berlin and Copenhagen before the end of this year.
There is also movement in the promotion of foreign investment in non-military sectors. The investment promotion agency has reorganised itself. After a long vacancy, UkraineInvest has a new managing director, Maryna Khlystun, who brings experience from the private sector and the Ministry of Economy. We have already spoken with her, agreed on concrete cooperation and invited her to address German companies directly at an AHK Talk in November.
