Dear friends of Ukraine,
At yesterday's board meeting, we spoke with Deputy Minister Daria Machak about how Ukraine can tap into further reserves for the strained labour market. The strategy for this will be presented today in Kyiv. Corresponding draft laws will soon be submitted to parliament. The labour market is one of the key issues we have agreed on for our work next year. Getting the labour market moving will be a prerequisite for more foreign investment.
While the labour market strategy is coming, we continue to wait for the new head of the presidential administration. The president is taking his time filling this key position. The names Shmyhal and Fedorov are being touted. Former Prime Minister Shmyhal is considered an effective administrator without major ambitions. His appointment would signal that the position – which has become increasingly important as Yermak's term of office has lengthened – is being devalued again. Digital Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, on the other hand, is only 34 years old and is considered an ambitious, modern doer. With him, the position would remain powerful, and he would be easy to sell as a step towards greater transparency and modernity. This was sometimes lacking under Yermak.
On a related note: we recently conducted 10 interviews with CEOs about how to successfully run a business in times of war. Read about their stories of production near the front line, investing during the war, and dealing with power cuts and labour shortages in "Resilience in Action" here.
Kind regards
