Dear friends of Ukraine,
Despite constant drone attacks, a German-Baltic delegation from the defence sector ventured to Kyiv this week. We organised the trip in collaboration with the AHK Baltikum. Nowhere else is the sense of urgency as great as in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The region is also highly innovative, meaning that trilateral cooperation between Germany, the Baltic states and Ukraine makes a great deal of sense. On 29 October, the AHK Baltikum will once again host the German-Baltic Defence Industry Conference. We will be attending alongside Ukrainian members.
Due to russian attacks on logistics centres, some products are becoming scarce in Kyiv’s supermarkets. As different items are out of stock in each supermarket, people have to visit at least two or three shops to complete a large grocery shop. Meanwhile, supermarket chains are trying to manage with fewer warehouses and have their supermarkets supplied directly by producers. These adjustments are therefore underway, but they will cost money and trigger additional inflationary pressure.
Meanwhile, many members of the Ukrainian parliament are apparently undeterred by the fact that funds promised by international donors are subject to conditions. According to an article by 112.ua, Ukraine has failed to implement 15 promised measures on time. As a result, 4.8 billion euros cannot be disbursed. Most recently, customs duties on parcels worth less than 150 euros were once again not approved. I hope that parliament’s enthusiasm for reform will increase further this year.
Kind regards
