3 ‒ 7 November 2025
Dear friends of Ukraine,
This year's enlargement package from the European Commission, presented on 4 November, gave Ukraine a fairly good report card for its efforts to join the EU. There is great joy in Kyiv, as worse marks had been expected. Brussels praises the removal of administrative barriers and the modernisation of the Ukrainian administrative apparatus. However, Brussels has also noted that implementation often lags behind announcements. Our discussions with member companies confirm that the picture is mixed. Progress has been made in many areas, but in others the Ukrainian state is a major burden for businesses, its citizens and itself. There is still a lot to be done on the road to EU membership.
The example of the wine industry shows that reforms can unleash new energy. Now that it has become cheaper to start your own wine business, 70 new companies have been established. During the war, the area under cultivation has grown by about a third to 20,000 hectares.
We are now entering the home stretch of the German-Ukrainian Business Awards project. We are nominating Knauf Gips, Profine, UIFK Agro and Quantum Systems for the "German Company of the Year" category. Ajax Systems, Interpipe, MHP and Univest are in the running for the "Ukrainian Company of the Year" category. All of the nominated companies demonstrate that entrepreneurial success is possible in Ukraine, even in times of war. Next week, we will tell you the stories of these companies. You can help decide who wins the awards and attend the awards ceremony and dinner on 27 November in Kyiv.
We wish you a wonderful weekend from Berlin and Kyiv.
Viele Grüße
