22 ‒ 26 June 2026
Dear friends of Ukraine,
Despite tensions between Poland and Ukraine, Poland is pulling out all the stops as host of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC). In Gdańsk, 5,000 conference participants are working on reconstruction yesterday and today. The ‘Security and Defence’ dimension is, quite rightly, on the agenda for the first time. After all, without lasting security, there can be no reconstruction.
Alongside defence, energy remains a major issue, not least because russia has bombed Ukraine’s energy production down to around a quarter of its pre-war capacity. Renewable energy is part of the solution. Our member Notus Energy is also contributing to this. During the URC, the company finalised the financing for its 120-megawatt wind farm.
The energy situation is also reflected in the government’s revised growth forecast. It now expects growth of just 1.6 per cent in 2026. The destruction of port infrastructure, which is creating a bottleneck for grain exports, is also contributing to this downward revision. Despite these factors, companies are looking to the future with considerable optimism. This is shown by our German-Ukrainian Business Outlook, which we have compiled in collaboration with KPMG and will be presenting in Lviv on 9 July. Click here for event details.
Kind regards from Gdańsk
