On 19 June 2026, Westnetz GmbH delivered a webinar for Ukrainian distribution system operators titled “Herausforderungen im Stromverteilnetz aus Sicht der Westnetz” — Challenges in the electricity distribution grid from Westnetz’s perspective.
The webinar was organized in cooperation with AHK Ukraine and NEURC, the Ukrainian energy regulator, as part of a broader initiative – Energy Training Academy for Ukrainian Engineers and Technicians. It provided valuable insights into the practical experience of one of Germany’s leading distribution system operators.
The discussion brought together more than 100 participants and focused on key challenges facing modern electricity distribution grids, including:
- the transformation of power systems in the context of the energy transition;
- the growing number of electric vehicles and heat pumps;
- physical limits of connection capacities in distribution grids;
- the role of digitalization and flexible connection in grid planning, monitoring and operation.
The exchange was particularly relevant for Ukrainian DSOs as Ukraine continues to strengthen the resilience, flexibility and modernization of its energy infrastructure.
